It was the right thing for me. And she just really made a huge difference in my life, because she gave me basketball back. And she just gave me my body back. And it was through lots of tears and lots of hard work, and unbelievable workouts and grit, and she just--I learned quite a bit about life in that training room, rehabilitating and getting back to being able to play. And really for me, a lot of my major life lessons took place in that training room, rehabbing back to be able to play the way I played before. So it wasn't just Coach Geyer; it was also Janet Bristor. She was amazing." Description An account of the resource "...-Coach Brock and the men's team really made sure that I knew that they were not happy with me. So like they would--if everyone was walking in a door, one of the guys would be holding the door and then when I came, it came my turn, they would let the door close in my face. So somehow because I wanted to be treated equally with respect, then I disqualified myself from being a woman in some sort of way. There was like this weird thing like, "Well, if you want to beat your chest for these equal--this whole you guys should be treated the same as us, then that means we're going to treat you like a man," in this weird way. It was just really--so that particular group of guys, particularly the seniors that year, did not let that die. And I paid for that for the rest of the season. When we'd sit on the bus or--there was always this attempt to make me feel like other or not included or not supported, or alone." The beauty of the campus and the excellence that I was after, academically and personally, I feel like it was in the air at Trinity. It was there for me to attain. I learned a tremendous amount. And at the same time, there was this piece of having to justify sometimes being on campus, if you were brown. And it really--to me it shouldn't have--those things were unnecessary, but they happened, and they happened often. But overall, that kind of just became a part of getting through the time there. And it was really after--so it was difficult while I was there, and it was really after I left that I could look back more nostalgically about it, about my time at Trinity and appreciate it in a different way."
